The Friends of Currimundi Lake developed from a gathering of residents formed in 1988 to tackle erosion and weed problems on the southern side of Currimundi Creek and the silted state of the Lake since canal development.

The Group was formalized in 1995 under the guidance of Councillor Don Smith with the aim to help improve and sustain the health of the Lake as a habitat and a source of recreational enjoyment.

Friends of Currimundi Lake work together with other groups and all levels of Government to improve litter management, youth participation, community education, facilities, management of flora and fauna, waste management, erosion surveillance and management of water quality.

The group represents the community at local, Council, developer and DERM meetings, and encourages an environmental ethic in our children.
